How a Sydney Plumbing Business Increased Qualified Local Enquiries From 12 to 29 a Month

North Shore Flow Plumbing relied on referrals and occasional ads while competitors outranked it on Google Maps. A local SEO and AI SEO campaign changed who showed up first.

The client

A good plumber, hard to find on Google

North Shore Flow Plumbing provides plumbing and emergency plumbing services across Hornsby and Sydney’s Upper North Shore. The business relied heavily on referrals and occasional Google Ads.

Its website had only a few pages, with no dedicated content for the services customers actually search for. Competitors appeared more prominently in Google Maps for searches such as:

emergency plumber near meblocked drain plumber Hornsbyhot water repairs Waitaraleaking tap plumber near me

The Google Business Profile was incomplete, service descriptions were inconsistent, and there was no structured process for generating reviews.

The challenge

Showing up only when someone already knew the name

Before the campaign, North Shore Flow Plumbing was easy to find if a customer already knew to search for it by name. It was far harder to find for the searches that actually bring in new customers.

12non-branded enquiries a month before the campaign
18Google reviews, despite years of trading
Fewwebsite pages, with no dedicated service content
Nonestructured process for requesting reviews

The demand was already there. The business simply wasn’t positioned to win it when customers went looking.

Our strategy

Win the searches that actually produce customers

Rather than chasing broad rankings, the campaign targeted the specific local searches losing the business the most business. The strategy had two objectives.

1

Win the high-intent local searches

Rank for the specific services and suburbs customers actually search, not generic plumbing terms that bring in the wrong traffic.

2

Build trust once they find you

A complete Google Business Profile and a visible track record of reviews, so a first-time visitor is confident enough to call.

What we implemented

Service pages, a stronger profile, and a review process

The campaign rebuilt the fundamentals the business was missing, then layered ongoing local SEO and AI-search optimisation on top.

Profile

Google Business Profile optimisation

Categories, service areas and descriptions were rebuilt around the plumbing services the business actually provides.

Pages

Dedicated service pages

New pages were built for blocked drains, hot water repairs and emergency plumbing, each targeted at the suburbs the business serves.

Content & search

On-page SEO and AI-ready content

Page titles, internal linking and local content answering common plumbing questions were improved, with content structured to perform across traditional search and emerging AI search platforms.

Alongside the build, we introduced a review request process and tracked Google Maps and competitor visibility throughout, so the campaign could be adjusted as rankings moved.

The results

More than double the enquiries, from the same business

Within six months, Google Maps visibility improved across priority Hornsby suburbs, and the enquiries that visibility produced grew substantially.

The business also began receiving more enquiries for its higher-value hot water and blocked-drain services, not just general callouts.

What the client says

“We used to rely almost entirely on word of mouth.

Now customers regularly tell us they found us through Google Maps and our service pages.”

The key lesson

For local trades, SEO is not simply about increasing website traffic. The objective is to become more visible when customers are actively looking for a service, and make it easy for them to call, request a quote or book.
